This scholarship is an initiative of the President and Vice Chancellor of University of Manitoba, Canada Prof. David Barnard and a Canadian non-profit organization- Canada Swahili Institute Inc . It is the outcome of a collaboration between TEPAD, University of Manitoba , Kenyatta University and Kenya Medical Research Institute on the use of sports for community development.
The scholarship is tenable in Canada at Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management of University of Manitoba. Under the agreement a total of 3 students will be accepted for a 4 year undergraduate degree in sports and recreation management program. The scholarships will run consecutively from year 2012 to 2024
To qualify, a candidate must be a resident of Nandi County and , have demonstrated a strong community involvement with an active interest and participation in sports. Should have attained the minimum academic qualifications for admission to University of Manitoba. All successful candidates must commit to return to Kenya after the end of thei r studies to work with the County and the community
